EFL Cup and AC Milan v Lazio

I don’t care what they’ve called it, Milk Cup, Coca-Cola Cup, Worthington Cup and god knows what else over the years. It’s still the League Cup if nothing else, and always will be in my opinion. Before any game kicks off the usual question will be asked beforehand, how seriously are managers taking it and will the ‘kids’ play?

It’s always a tricky one for the bookies, well I say that, it’s probably actually easier for them as they tend to pick the odds on form and recent results. We all know though that in this competition anything can happen.

EFL Cup – Leicester City v Chelsea

Leicester City v Chelsea is without doubt the stand out fixture tonight. Of course a few years ago it wouldn’t have been, as Chelsea away to Leicester was just your average away midweek cup fixture. Not now though, Chelsea are not in Europe and they’re away to the Premier League champions who have a 100% winning record in the Champions League. Who’d of thought it!

The above fixture will be the stand out fixture but again how things have changed in Italy as well. As AC Milan v Lazio fifteen years would have been a huge top of the league clash across Europe. With most people outside of Italy probably tuning in to watch it, but not anymore. I think I might myself tonight though.

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid on Wednesday

If you want entertainment on Wednesday then look no further than Barcelona v Atletico Madrid, should be a cracker! If you want an upset tomorrow, then with the pressure on – Manchester United away to lowly Northampton Town is obviously worth keeping an eye on. Four defeats on the trot for Mourinho? Maybe not, but I bet he’ll be playing a stronger team than he planned too after the three straight losses.
